The Many Causes of Female Hair Thinning

Hair has always been a woman’s best friend. This is why hair loss will not only take away her beauty but also her self-confidence. Unlike in men, the hair loss pattern in women is diffuse (spread all throughout the scalp) and does not result in complete baldness. Hair loss in women can be triggered by a number of possible factors including heredity, stress, poor nutrition, and certain illnesses.

The Causes of Female Hair Thinning

Autoimmune Diseases

Diabetes type 1, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis are just some of the autoimmune disorders that cause hair loss or thinning especially in women. Hair loss is either a side effect of the medications used to treat the condition or one of its symptoms.

Nutritional Deficiency

Malnutrition resulting from crash diets and iron-deficiency anemia are common nutritional deficiencies in women. Because hair has no survival purpose, it is one of the last parts of the body that will receive nutrients -- the vital parts get the nutrients first. Therefore, when the body lacks nutrients, the hair follicles will lack the necessary nutrients to produce hair.

Stress

According to several studies, women are prone to higher stress levels than men are because women tend to concern themselves with other people as well. “Stressors” can change the manner by which the follicles absorb nutrients. Stress-induced hair loss may occur 2-4 months after the stressful event took place (e.g. traumatic pregnancy, divorce, death of a relative, etc.).

Heredity

One of five women in their mid-30s has female pattern baldness, a hereditary form of hair loss. Experts believe that it is caused by the inherent sensitivity of certain hair follicles in the scalp to the hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Hereditary hair loss typically begins during menopause but then again, it can begin to develop at a much younger age. Unlike other causes of hair loss, hereditary hair thinning is a slow progressive process of hair thinning. Indeed, it worsens with advancing age.

Consult a Doctor Immediately

It is imperative to seek professional treatment immediately in case of sudden massive loss of hair to rule out serious medical conditions.

In case of FPB, there are methods to slow down the process. One of the best names in at-home hair restoration is Leimo, which provides professional organic-based treatment and hair care for hair thinning in women.
